virtual organizing
You + comfy pants + phone + us = organized
Virtual organizing uses technology such as your phone, tablet, or computer to allow us to meet and address your organizing needs! We currently use the Zoom platform for our meetings. The way we conduct the session is flexible based on your working style. A free consultation call is a great way to determine your best working style and to confirm that your technology and internet connection will work properly wherever you want to hold your session.
Virtual organizing begins with you giving me a tour of your project. Once we establish goals, we talk through the process of organizing in real time, as you practice (see OUR PROCESS). Virtual organizing uses coaching to give you skills to organize as we go, but also on your own as you gain understanding and confidence in your abilities.
Advantages of Virtual Organizing:
1. As sessions can be as short as one hour, there is no pressure and more time for you to mentally process the information however is best for you.
2. For those with demanding schedules, it is easier to block off the shorter appointment times and fit them into the rest of life.
3. The entire appointment time is used on the high value activity of increasing your skills of organization. You aren’t paying us to move boxes for you.
4. Within the same budget, we can meet more frequently. Instead of one four hour appointment every two weeks (a common minimum), we could meet twice a week for two weeks.
a. This keeps your organizing momentum at its peak.
b. This keeps up the level of accountability created if that’s a helpful strategy for you.
c. This allows you to ask more questions, and receive more in depth answers, if you’re working in between sessions.
d. There’s more opportunity to work on your own, which speeds up the learn/practice cycle.
5. There is no health risk, Covid-19 or otherwise. No need to even think about masks, gloves and the persons’ exposure risk in their own life.
6. If you prefer to do the major bulk of the work on your own, outside of sessions, this can be a less expensive option.
7. You may limit what you show us in your home to only what you are comfortable sharing.
8. Shorter sessions mean an opportunity for concentrated learning of skills strategies and techniques without the need to pause for breaks, or a decrease of concentration from fatigue.
9. Having another person in your space can distract you, even without you realizing it. Virtual organizing allows you to focus only on our conversation, what you see on our screen and what items are in your space. The mental and emotional focus can help you retain more of what you learn.
10. Your recorded sessions are always available to you so that you can refer to them at any time at your own pace.
Virtual Organizing works best if:
1. You are comfortable with the technology required for video chatting. You have a high speed internet connection. A stand for your phone or tablet (if using) is helpful.
2. You are able to recognize and be realistic about your speed and not get discouraged by unrealistic expectations of yourself.
3. You are motivated to create and maintain a change in your life.
4. You can learn through listening.
5. You have an environment quiet enough with limited interruptions.
6. You need to be willing and able to move all the items yourself. If you are unable to physically move the items you need to, you can hire a support person, trade support with a friend (such as moving an item that requires two people) or ask a family member or neighbor for help.
Limitations of Virtual Organizing:
1. Unless you have already addressed personal organizing obstacles, it is difficult to make quick enough progress on large, unusable areas to maintain motivation.
2. If you can’t move your items on your own and are unable or unwilling to bring someone else into your home to help, our progress would be severely limited.
